A sophisticated example of 3D printed fashion attire.

Dublin based design studio Love & Robots and costume designer Niamh Lunny co-operated to produce Plumage, a 3D printed, free-moving, customisable cape made from over six thousand moving component parts which provide the illusion of feathers. Plumage is printed in one piece using chainmail as the underlayer then overlaying it with free moving faux feathers to create a textile like finish.

The Plumage Cape is available for purchase for €6,000 (about US$6,600). The garment weighs approx. 0.8 kg, measures approx. 465 mm in diameter and is printed using 100% skin-safe nylon.

Niamh Lunny is Head of Costume at the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre. She has designed costumes for The Abbey Theatre, ANU, The Performance Corporation, Fishamble Theatre Company and Rough Magic along with many other film, TV and theatre companies.

Love & Robots is a Dublin based brand which is reinventing jewellery. Using cutting-edge technologies, they create bespoke pieces which can be made-to-order.
