Engineered art with flair and a message

Frank Plant is a Barcelona based American sculptor. He studied sculpture at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and after completing his B.A. in fine arts in 1993 he moved to Amsterdam and it was during that period he began to develop his drawings in steel. His subjects are simple and direct studies of the forms and compositions of everyday objects and situations.

Welded steel has always been the principal medium for his work, whether in his two dimensional pieces such as his Fingerprints series or his earlier three dimensional kinetic metal sculptures. In 1999 Plant moved to Barcelona and began to diversify the materials he uses in his sculpture works.

Frank Plant pieces are held in private and public collections throughout Europe and North America.

Frank was commissioned to create a large scale vegetal sculpture entitled “Grow” for Wageningen University in Holland. The work is fashioned from steel covered in green flocking and with living plants on nine of the fourteen heads. Overall the piece measures an impressive 16 meters x 4 meters high.
