Rupy C. Tut migrated from India to the U.S. at age twelve and she is now based in Oakland, California.

In 2006 she graduated from UCLA with a degree in Evolutionary and Ecological Biology and a South Asian Studies Minor. She later attended Loma Linda University in 2009 and achieved a Master's Degree in Global Health. She is described in less than adequate terms as an eco-feminist artist and calligrapher.

She makes her own pigments and uses hemp paper or linen as mediums for her fine-art works. Her paintings have been hung at numerous institutions including the De Young Museum and the Asian Art Museum. She has mounted solo shows at the Triton Museum of Art, the Jessica Silverman Gallery and the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco.
